The military administration in the #Ukrainian capital, #Kyiv, says #Russia has launched another wave of drone attacks on the city and the wider region, for the second night in a row. The head of the administration, Serhiy Popko, said air defence systems were repelling the attack. Last night 26 drones were shot down in the Kyiv region and near the #Odesa sea port, according to Ukraine. (cont.)
The UN Human Rights Council will discuss evidence of human rights violations in #Ukraine today. It will start with a report from the Secretary General on the situation in #Crimea , which was annexed by #Russia in 2014. The report details repeated #harassment, #imprisonment, and #torture of human rights defenders there by #Russian forces. (cont.)
The document also says #Russia has begun transferring people detained in #Ukraine to a new prison in #Crimea , where they are held in inhumane conditions. The Red Cross has repeatedly called for access to all detainees, but has had only limited visits to #prisoners held by Russia.
A report by #Russia 's Central Bank says #Russians withdrew increased volumes of cash over the period when the short-lived #rebellion by the #Wagner group occurred in June. A review noted that 100 billion roubles, or more than a billion dollars, had been taken from banks between the 23rd and 25th of June. This did not led to monetary problems, the bank said. The #rouble has sunk further against the dollar since the #mutiny , losing around 6% of its value.
